I am very excited to continually be a part of TIDE Academy. I chose to work at TIDE because my educational outlook aligned with the vision, mission and philosophy of the school. At TIDE I enjoy the opportunity to support staff, students and families. It has been a dream come true to be part of a school that puts personalized learning, quality education, small class sizes and the happiness and healthiness of students as its lead focus.

I was raised in a small farming community near Saskatoon, Canada. I completed my Bachelor of Education at the University of Saskatchewan and began my education career in Canada teaching inquiry based and place-based learning. I continued my teaching journey in Cambridge, England working with behavioral students, as a S.A.T prep coordinator and taught Math and English. Following England, I travelled and worked in Spain and Portugal assessing school’s effectiveness, implemented learning strategies, and facilitated lectures at the University of Westminster to help prepare them for international teachers. Prior to Costa Rica, I worked in Nicaragua where I developed curriculum, implemented policies, and worked as a classroom teacher.

As a self-reflective practitioner, I am continually drawing upon my formal education and practical experiences as they contribute to the development of my personal teaching philosophy.  My time at TIDE Academy has reinforced my philosophy; creating respectful relationships is the most meaningful tool in progressing students towards achieving their social, emotional, and academically potential. I strive to achieve this through open and honest communication with all students, colleagues, and guardians to promote an effective team approach.

Relationship building, coinciding with differentiated planning, instruction and assessment provides the opportunity to change children’s attitudes towards learning. It ignites their curiosities, their desire to learn and leads them to achieve curricular outcomes while also creating responsible, inspired, confident lifelong learners.

Outside of education, I enjoy spending time running, hiking, surfing and practicing yoga. I also like playing guitar, drawing and traveling.

I am beyond excited to be a part of the TIDE community for a fifth year.
