Alana (3rd Grade and OT)

Alana is originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana but has lived many places including New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and for the majority of her life in South Carolina.  She spent the last 10 years in Colorado before moving to beautiful Tamarindo.  This will be Alana’s third year teaching at TIDE Academy. Alana’s teaching philosophy is simple-make learning fun by presenting material and information in the classroom that caters to ALL learning styles. Focus on creativity and consistency when teaching while making every learning experience new and exciting.  Alana will be teaching 3 grade along with fulfilling the role of the on-site school Occupational Therapist.  Her after school program includes homework club where she will work with students who may need extra support understanding concepts, organizing and completing work or may need differentiated learning approaches and material to let their academic strengths shine and flourish here at TIDE Academy.

Alana graduated with an undergraduate degree with a B.S. in Science with a concentration in exercise science from the University of South Carolina. Go Gamecocks!!  From there she was accepted into the Occupational Therapy Masters program at Colorado State University where she completed her graduate studies and thesis to earn an M.A. in Occupational Therapy specializing in pediatrics both in the clinical practice and school setting.  Alana is so excited to continue working at TIDE because of the students she is given the opportunity to interact with everyday.  Each and every one of them are so unique in personality and learning style that she really feels at home in practicing as an Occupational Therapist as well as teaching.  She is able to use her scope of practice as an Occupational Therapist to understand how students grow and develop which guide the implementation of specialized supports and interventions available for all varieties of student learning styles while teaching TIDE students.  When Alana is not teaching she enjoys spending time outdoors, dancing, drawing, volunteering and spending time with her dog Martha!!
