What a wonderful year and future for TIDE Academy!

IMG_2370
As this year winds down I am already planning and preparing for the following year. As I have shared with many of you I am so happy with how well this year has gone. At TIDE we have had our ups and downs and many learning experiences however, I can honestly say this has been TIDE’s best year yet and this has all been possible because of the students, teachers, and amazing support from all the families. Thank you!
Looking into the future I plan on continuing to improve our curriculum and enrichment programs. A stronger focus on languages, Arts, Technology, and introducing a Music program. These are all aspects of education and life-learning skills that should be included in a well-rounded and personalized learning program like TIDE Academy.
I have so many things I want to share about next year including: a new High School accreditation, extending our hours, improving our surf program, new teachers and more. Please take the time and read below!
Again I cannot thank you enough and please enjoy your summer and for those who are moving your future endeavors! For the rest see you in September or in the water!
Cheers, Chelsea

TIDE Awards!

Every year the teachers vote what students deserve our 4 annual awards: The Trifecta, The Independent, The Determined, and the Enthusiastic
Trifecta- This award goes to the student that goes above in beyond not just in academics but extra-curricular activities as well. This student does not only excel academically but additionally she works hard volunteering at the Veterinary’s Office and working professionally as a contracted model. We are amazed with how much effort and determination Fres ten Hoope brings to everything she does. We congratulate Fres on completing high school in three years instead of four. We wish her the best in all of her future endeavors!
Independent- At TIDE Academy we really try to promote independent and self learners. This means we want students that WANT to learn outside the classroom. The student who is awarded the independent award has excelled in every single one of his classes and is a role model to all of his peers. Nate Ehlert is a 7th grader that is enrolled in high school: Biology, Psychology, and Algebra 1 not only did he passed but he always earned one of the highest grades in each of these classes. We are extremely proud of how far Nate has come in his academics as well as his athletics. Congratulations and we wish you the best next year in San Diego!
Determined- The Determined award is for a student who illustrates their personality in and outside the classroom. It is for someone who always tries their hardest, isn’t afraid to fail, and when he or she does they learn from his or her mistakes. This student is always concerned not only about completing her work but also understanding it. She always participates and is always respectful to her teachers. She has also gone leaps and bounds academically especially in math! This award goes to 4th grader Rivi Schebler!
Enthusiastic- This award is for the student who comes to school with a positive attitude and his or her attitude is passed to others. This student always comes to school with a smile on her face, is always respectful, and is always ready to help her peers. She is always up to trying new things, loves completing projects, and gives her best every day. It is truly a pleasure having this student at TIDE. Thank you for making our job so easy! Therefore, we are extremely excited to give the Enthusiastic Award to Silver ten Hoope!

2015-2016 TIDE Academy Yearbook

Sarah Allison has done a wonderful job putting together the TIDE Yearbook for this year. All families are welcome to order a copy! If you would like to order a copy PLEASE email: TIDEAcademy@gmail.com

More Space!

Next year we will be expanding TIDE! We will be moving into the two lower units next to TIDE Pools. However, just because we have more space does not mean we will be increasing the student population. We just know that at times our location seems a little tight and getting a little more space will give both the teachers and students a better learning environment. Additionally this space will be used for our new Dance Academy in the afternoons!

End of the Year Survey

TIDE has received a new high school Accreditation: Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools

This week we received news that our partnership with North Atlantic Regional High School in Auburn Maine has been approved! NARHS is accredited through the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. This accreditation is recognized both in the United States and Internationally including Costa Rica. MSA is the same international accreditation that CRIA has. Having this accreditation will help students get into better colleges and universities internationally and it will allow students to attend public and private universities in Costa Rica. Starting this fall all high school students will be able to receive a MSA transcript by taking classes at TIDE. This is great news for all families! For students in 8th grade and below we will still be offering the GVS transcript that will help make sure your credits will transfer to any school in Unite States.

Occupation and Speech Therapist at TIDE Academy

Our mission is to provide a personal and flexible education to every student. That being said we are very excited to announce that we will have both a Speech and Occupational Therapist available to all students at TIDE Academy. Additionally families can schedule private appointments with either therapist right at TIDE Academy immediately after 12:00. Both therapists will be able to work with the students in a classroom setting as well as provide additional attention after hours. Both therapists will be available for non-TIDE students as well!
Currently we are speaking with Surf 4 Youth and we will be combining our surf programs. Surf for Youth coach Andrea Diaz will be joining Scott Kadowski in coaching the TIDE Surf Program starting this September. Andrea is the founder of Surf 4 Youth and a former National Champion. Andrea has traveled and competed all over the world and is one of the top female surfers in Latin America. We are so excited to have her share her knowledge and experiences with the TIDE Surf program.

Extending the Extra-Curricular Activities

We had such a great success with the Enrichment Program we are going to be adding even more hours! Starting this fall we will be offering classes before school every day of the week from 6:30-7:30. These classes will include: Surf Fitness, Surf Classes (potentially twice a week), Soccer, and Volleyball. Seeing as it is much cooler in the mornings we have decided to offer our more active classes then. We hope that all families will get involved!
